Tomoya Aomori is a New York–based composer, arranger, conductor, and multi-instrumentalist whose work moves fluidly between concert music, film and television scoring, and live performance.

A graduate of The Juilliard School with both a Bachelor's (2007) and Master's (2009) degree, double-majoring in percussion and double bass, he received Juilliard's William Schuman Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in music.

As a performer he is proficient on piano, cello, double bass, and percussion, drawing on a classical foundation that runs alongside a deep, working fluency in jazz. That range shows up everywhere in his career: substituting on percussion with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and New Jersey Symphony, touring arenas with Hans Zimmer, and reinventing himself as an electric cellist for genre-defying sets with New York Jazz Expressway at rooms like Blue Note New York and Tokyo's Body & Soul.

He handles the full production chain himself — score writing, click-track creation, MIDI production, recording, mixing, and mastering in Logic Pro X — making him equally suited to a commissioned score, a live orchestral arrangement, or a finished studio recording.

Tomoya is also the founder and arranger of the Aomori-Kang Trio (AK Trio), a family ensemble featuring his wife, cellist Dr. Julia Kang (juliakangcello.com), and their son, clarinetist Kento Aomori. Blending classical music, jazz, film music, anime, and original arrangements, the trio creates engaging performances for audiences of all ages. They are currently recording their debut Christmas album, scheduled for release in 2026.
